The arrangement
Maitland Concrete Works is a referral service. Each enquiry goes to one independent concreter working the Maitland, Cessnock and Port Stephens council areas, who visits the block, measures, quotes in writing and does the work. No one employed by this site pours concrete, and the site takes no part in the contract for the work.
That contract, the price on it, the payment and any warranty sit between you and the concreter. Ask to see the concreter's NSW licence and insurance before you sign anything; NSW Fair Trading's online register checks a licence number in a minute. The three councils say much the same thing in their own words: Maitland City Council recommends a contractor who is adequately insured and appropriately licensed, Cessnock City Council tells owners to make sure the contractor is licensed and insured, and Port Stephens Council wants public liability insurance lodged before construction.
Why the numbers are printed
Because a homeowner should be able to budget before handing over a phone number. Every service page carries its per square metre range, the cost guide works the common sizes and the calculator runs any other. The specification lists what a slab is made of so two quotes can be compared on their contents. The Section 138 guide and the Hunter clay guide were written from Maitland City Council's, Cessnock City Council's and Port Stephens Council's own pages and from state sources, each dated on the page.
What gets referred
Concreting around a home: driveways, shed and garage slabs, paths, patios and alfresco slabs, exposed aggregate and removal and replacement, in the twenty suburbs across the three council areas. The slab of a house or granny flat, a pool shell and work for a business are outside it.
What is deliberately missing
Star ratings, review counts, awards and claims about how long anyone has been in the trade. None of that can be verified by a reader, so none of it is here. The rates, the specification and the sources can be.
